| I noticed something this weekend at my cousin's wedding--I come from a VERY loud family. I feel like I have just lived the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" for myself. Thank God I wasn't the person getting married! How on earth did I--the somewhat shy (NOT loud) person--come by such a loud family? I'll never know.

| So my cousin is getting married in a few hours and I am playing for the wedding. At the rehearsal yesterday I made an observation that made it different from most of the other rehearsals I have been to in Texas. For some reason this wedding rehearsal lasted about an hour-and-a-half--MUCH longer than the rehearsals I have attended in Texas. I'm not quite sure why, but I think it might have something to do with the fact that they had TWO wedding coordinators...bad news bears! There only needs to be one person in control--any more and you're headed for trouble. The rehearsal dinner was nice, though. I particularly enjoy the toasting and roasting part. When it gets to that part of the evening I always stop and think..."Hey, one of these days it'll be my turn...oh, God my family has a lot of junk on me...not to mention my friends!" Let's just say I've given them A LOT of material to draw from. Well, I hope what they say about wedding rehearsals is true...lousy rehearsal--beautiful wedding. | | |
| Things have been kind of crazy lately. Last week my brass methods teacher gave us this assignment which did not seem all that bad--mindless and not all that time consuming. BOY was I wrong! Our assignment involved going to the library and looking up ten method books for each instrument in the class (trumpet, tuba, french horn, trombone and euphonium) and then writing a bibliography and a description of each of the books. Completely mindless BUT WAY timeconsuming. I spent three hours ALONE compiling a list of the trumpet books and writing those up--by the end of only one instrument I was ready to give up altogether. I mean, if I actually played a brass instrument and plan to teach band any time soon this assignment might be useful to me. I did only finish half of the assignment, and believe me when I say it wasn't because I slacked off. For any of you out there who have to take brass methods any time soon, I feel your pain. | | |
| Okay, so after about a week of not watching any TV whatsoever, due to being sick of the continuous coverage of hurricane Katrina, I decided to see if there was anything interesting on my favorite news show "The Situation with Tucker Carlton" only to find that there was another hurricane of mass destruction headed straight for the Louisiana/Texas coast line. Of course I feel badly for all of the people who are having to evacuate, and for my friends who have family in those areas--it is just so hard to sit and watch all of this tragedy take place. Not to mention, this is just one of those things that the media is going to have a field day over, and instead of actually helping in relief efforts, they are just going to blow everything out of perportion by blaming everyone and talking about what people could have done differently. What's this country coming to? I have to say that I hope that the media covers the aftermath of this hurricane in a more objective and compassionate way than they did the last one. | | |
| Okay, so I'm hosting my very first Community Group tonight--kinda nervous, but mostly excited! All the girls that I've met so far are sweet and I'm sure we are going to have a blast (I hope). Wish me luck (oh wait...I don't believe in luck--woops), but you get the idea. Later. | | |
